Vacuum Ultraviolet Photoionization and P

Lowest used price: $18.76
List price: $243.00

This monograph reviews the recent progress in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photoionization and photodissociation processes. Photoionization, photoelectron, and fluorescence spectroscopic techniques have played an important role in revealing the photoionization and photodissociation dynamics of molecules in the vacuum ultraviolet region and in providing accurate energetic and spectroscopic information of ions as well as neutral molecules. The book represents the first detailed review of major experimental developments in the studies of single vacuum ultraviolet photon ionization and dissociation processes of gaseous molecules and clusters.

Discussing theory and transport, synthesis, processing, properties, and applications, this second edition of a standard resource covers advances in the field of electrically conducting polymers and contains more than 1500 drawings, photographs, tables, and equations. Maintaining the style of presentation and depth of coverage that made the first edition so popular, it contains the authoritative contributions of an interdisciplinary team of world-renowned experts encompassing the fields of chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering. The Handbook of Conducting Polymers highlights progress, delineates improvements, and examines novel tools for polymer and materials scientists..

Introduction to Magnetic Resonance

Introduction to Magnetic Resonance Lowest used price: $995.17
Author: Alan Carrington

Intended as an introduction to magnetic resonance, but equally useful for physics majors, this book is designed primarily for first-year chemistry graduate students and advanced senior undergraduates. The chief claim is to present, in a clear and concise manner, the most important principles and applications of the two kinds of magnetic resonance: nuclear magnetic resonance (N.M.R.) and electron spin resonance (E.S.R.), both of which depend upon the same fundamental principles. The first text to treat both topics in a single volume, Introduction to Magnetic Resonance also contains the first up-to-date account of triplet state E.S.R. work. Difficult points are not evaded; theory is presented simply. Some knowledge of quantum mechanics and matrix algebra is presupposed; the mathematics is kept as simple as possible. Methods are illustrated with key examples form current research. A well-balanced and coherent account of the subject.

Optical Spectroscopies of Electronic Absorption (World Scientific Series in Contemporary Chemical Physics, 17)

Optical Spectroscopies of Electronic Absorption (World Scientific Series in Contemporary Chemical Physics, 17) Lowest new price: $71.28
Lowest used price: $8.61
List price: $87.00
Author: J R Lalanne

This book, a companion volume to Electronic Structure and Chemical Bonding (World Scientific, 1996), is concerned with the teaching of optical spectroscopies of electronic absorption. It is the culmination of about ten years of experience in the teaching of the subject and the training of students to become teachers in the physical sciences. The book covers topics of current research and includes about 30 problems with solutions, most of which are adapted from tests proposed recently at the “Aggregation” in chemistry and physics. It provides as much coverage of elementary quantum mechanics, group theory and the electronic structure of molecules as is necessary for the reader to understand the rest of the topics. Also included are numerous appendices, often presented as charts to facilitate assimilation, as well as short bibliographies, limited to basic books and review articles. This volume will be an invaluable guide for teachers and potential teachers in the physical sciences, and more generally for students and engineers in chemical physics and physics.

Principles of Quantum Mechanics: As Applied to Chemistry and Chemical Physics

Principles of Quantum Mechanics: As Applied to Chemistry and Chemical Physics Lowest new price: $39.98
Lowest used price: $7.80
List price: $117.00
Author: Donald D. Fitts
Brand: Cambridge University Press

Quantum behavior encompasses a large fraction of modern science and technology, including the laws of chemistry and the properties of crystals, semiconductors, and superfluids. This graduate-level text presents the basic principles of quantum mechanics using modern mathematical techniques and theoretical concepts, such as hermitian operators, Hilbert space, Dirac notation, and ladder operators. The first two chapters serve as an introduction to quantum theory with a discussion of wave motion and Schrödinger's wave mechanics. Coverage then details the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics. Throughout, basic theory is clearly illustrated and applied to the harmonic oscillator, angular momentum, the hydrogen atom, the variation method, perturbation theory, and nuclear motion. This volume is the ideal textbook for beginning graduate students in chemistry, chemical physics, molecular physics and materials science.

The Crystal Lattice: Phonons, Solitons, Dislocations, Superlattices

The Crystal Lattice: Phonons, Solitons, Dislocations, Superlattices Lowest new price: $271.60
Lowest used price: $237.11
List price: $313.95
Author: Arnold M. Kosevich

The aim of this successful book is to describe and analyse peculiarities of classical and quantum dynamics of a crystal as a spatially periodic structure. In the second revised and updated edition, the author focuses on low-dimensional models of crystals and on superlattices. Both traditional questions like the spectrum of vibrations, the idea of phonon gas, dislocations etc. and new aspects like the theory of quantum crystals, solitons in 1D crystals, dislocation theory of melting of 2D crystals etc. are discussed. The author gives an explanation of a set of phenomena which entered into solid state physics during the last decades. It is shown that the crystal properties are sensitive to the dimension of the crystal and its defect structure, and depend slightly on whether the periodic structure consists of atoms, or electrical dipoles, or magnetic moments (spins). Considerable attention is devoted to the dislocation mechanisms as a basis of the theory of plasticity and numerous technological applications of crystalline materials.
