Industrial Catalysis: A Practical Approach

Industrial Catalysis: A Practical Approach Lowest new price: $128.53
Lowest used price: $135.99
List price: $205.00
Author: Jens Hagen

Now in it's 3rd Edition, Industrial Catalysis offers all relevant information on catalytic processes in industry, including many recent examples. Perfectly suited for self-study, it is the ideal companion for scientists who want to get into the field or refresh existing knowledge.

The updated edition covers the full range of industrial aspects, from catalyst development and testing to process examples and catalyst recycling. The book is characterized by its practical relevance, expressed by a selection of over 40 examples of catalytic processes in industry. In addition, new chapters on catalytic processes with renewable materials and polymerization catalysis have been included. Existing chapters have been carefully revised and supported by new subchapters, for example, on metathesis reactions, refinery processes, petrochemistry and new reactor concepts.

"I found the book accesible, readable and interesting - both as a refresher and as an introduction to new topics - and a convenient first reference on current industrial catalytic practise and processes."
Excerpt from a book review for the second edition by P. C. H. Mitchell, Applied Organometallic Chemistry (2007)

Since 1971 when useful working concepts for the technique of phase-transfer catalysis (PTC) were introduced, the understanding, development, and applica tions of this method for conducting organic reactions has expanded exponentially. PTC has brought vast new dimensions and options to chemists and chemical engineers. From its use in less than ten commercial processes in 1975, PTC use has increased so that in the early 1990s it is involved in more than 600 industrial applications to manufacture products valued at between 10 and 20 billion U.S. dollars. PTC is widely used for simple organic reactions, steps in synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, perfumes, ftavorants, and dyes; for specialty polymerization reactions, polymer modifications, and monomer synthe sis; for pollution and environmental control processes; for analysis oftrace organic and inorganic compounds; and for many other applications. Often, PTC offers the best (and sometimes only) practical technique to obtain certain products. The authors experience in teaching a short course on phase-transfer catalysis has shown to us that a newcomer to PTC can easily be frustrated and confused by the large amount of information available in the literature and in patents. The purpose of this book, therefore, was to bring this information together in a logical and user-friendly way, without sacrificing matters of scholarly and fundamental importance.

This first in-depth book on environmental catalysis covers the topics
? Environmental catalysis - mobile sources
? Environmental catalysis - stationary sources
? Catalytic combustion
? Catalytic routes to hydro(chloro)fluorocarbons
? Heterogeneous catalysis in the troposphere
and is indispensable for every scientist and engineer working in the automobile and energy industries, atmospheric research, and related areas. Concepts and Applications of Molecular Similarity

Concepts and Applications of Molecular Similarity Lowest new price: $250.00
Lowest used price: $158.00
List price: $348.00

Offers authoritative overviews of topics related to the definition, computation and application of molecular similarity and emphasizes current research trends with molecular similarity as the unifying concept. Introduces and defines the concept of molecular similarity and explains how it can be used to explore the data containing 2-D and 3-D chemical information. Addresses the basic problem of relating chemical structures to their associated chemical and biological properties. Final chapters illustrate the use of similarity arguments in the study of chemical reaction pathways and present theoretical approaches to the concept of molecular similarity.

Spectroscopy in Catalysis: An Introduction

Spectroscopy in Catalysis: An Introduction Lowest new price: $49.02
Lowest used price: $103.59
List price: $180.00
Author: J. W. Niemantsverdriet

'Spectroscopy in Catalysis' describes the most important modern analytical techniques used to investigate catalytic surfaces. These include electron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS, AES, EELS), ion spectroscopy (SIMS, SNMS, RBS, LEIS), vibrational spectroscopy (infrared, Raman, EELS), temperature-programmed techniques (TPR, TPO, TDS), diffraction (XRD, LEED, EXAFS), and microscopy (TEM, SEM, STEM, STM, AFM, FEM, and FIM). Each chapter uses current applications to illustrate the type of information that the technique provides and evaluates its possibilities and limitations.
This second edition includes significant new developments, for example scanning probe microscopies, the imaging and vibrational techniques have been revised, the case studies expanded with an example on polymerization catalysts, and all the other chapters updated with recent examples and relevant new literature.

From reviews of the First Edition:

'This is a truly valuable book ... very useful for industrial practitioners who need to be aware of the type of information that can be obtained from modern surface spectroscopies .... The book has a superb pedagogic value...'
Journal of Catalysis

'... this is an excellent text on spectroscopies in catalysis and I highly recommend it for ... introductory courses on heterogeneous catalysis or as a general introductory monograph.'
Journal of the American Chemical Society
