Wild China An exotic fusion of natural history and Oriental adventure, "Wild China" is a series of journeys through four startlingly different landscapes, each based around the travels of a real historical character. With splendour, scale and romance, Wild China lifts the veil on the world's most enigmatic and magnificent country, delving into its vibrant habitats to reveal a land of unbelievable natural complexity. Journey across China from the glittering peaks of the Himalayas to the barren steppe, the sub-Arctic to the tropical islands, through deserts both searingly hot and mind-numbingly cold and see, in pioneering images, a dazzling array of mysterious, beautiful, wild and rare creatures. Galapagos The inspiration for Darwin 's theory of evolution, the Galápagos Islands are a living laboratory, a geological conveyor belt that has given birth to and seen the death of many species of plants and animals. As the western islands rise up from the sea offering a chance of life, the eastern islands sink back beneath the waves guaranteeing only death. Between the two are the middle islands; fertile, lush land in its prime that contains an incredible diversity of life. Nowhere else on the Earth are the twin processes of creation and extinction of species so starkly apparent... see it all unfold before your eyes in this stunning series filmed entirely in high definition from the BBC and the National Geographic Channel. Ganges A sumptuous series that tells the story of the most extraordinary river in the world - the Ganges. Human life and nature bustle along her river banks, in a kaleidoscope of colour and energy. From man-hunting tigers to giant lizards, here the wildlife is as diverse as the people. Traversing from the peaks of the Himalayas through frenetic cities to the teeming delta where the river meets the sea, this is a vibrant and colourful look at how the Ganges shaped the wildlife, culture and beliefs of India.

Mike Gunton, Executive Producer of Life, brings his next landmark series to Blu-ray with Africa! This 6-part series will amaze and awe with stunning photography and truly moving stories of survival on the continent with the most diverse animal life anywhere on our planet. Premiering simultaneously in the UK, U.S. and Australia, it promises to be a worldwide phenomenon on a scale not seen since Planet Earth.

There are only so many superlatives available to English speakers, and since most have already been used to describe other titles in the BBC's Earth documentary series, what can one possibly say about Africa? That it is perhaps the most stunning melding of technology and nature yet? That's a decent place to start, but really, these six hour-long episodes, each focusing on a different part of the continent aptly described as the greatest wildlife show on Earth, must be seen (especially on Blu-ray) to be appreciated. Naturalist David Attenborough, who's been at this for nearly 60 years, is once again the narrator/onscreen host, and in the first five episodes (the last, entitled "The Future," chronicles efforts to protect and conserve the many species threatened by overpopulation, poaching, climate change, and other factors), he's on hand for multiple moments that aren't simply educational and revelatory, but also jaw-droppingly beautiful, with cinematography so rich and detailed you might even think some of these shots are studio-enhanced special effects. In "Kalahari," we see an extraordinary array of the greatest mammals on the planet--elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, and so on--gathering by day at a watering hole in a place so dry its name translates as "land of great thirst"; at night, meanwhile, a special "starlight camera" captures rhinos engaging in the kind of social behavior never before observed by humans. In "Savannah," we are witness to a scene in which a mother elephant must decide to keep up with the herd or stay behind with her dying baby, a profoundly moving sequence that will melt the hardest heart. In "Cape," we see the "butterfly ball," in which butterflies leave the protection of the rainforest floor and soar above the trees in a gloriously balletic mating ritual. But while the content is well beyond reproach, when it comes to presentation, Africa seems to be trying to modernize the nature doc form, with somewhat mixed results. Some of it is edited more like a movie than a documentary, using music, quick cuts, close-ups, and slo-mo to heighten the drama (one example is an otherwise spectacular battle between two male giraffes that's scored and edited like a Sam Peckinpah western). Mere quibbles? Perhaps. Whatever your view, there's no denying that Africa (which includes interesting making-of sections at the end of each episode, as well as interviews, outtakes, and deleted scenes) is a triumph. --Sam Graham

Mysteries of the Unseen World transports audiences to places on this planet that they have never been before, to see things that are beyond their normal vision, yet literally right in front of their eyes. Mysteries of the Unseen World reveals phenomena that can't be seen with the naked eye, taking audiences into earthly worlds secreted away in different dimensions of time and scale. Viewers experience events that unfold too slowly for human perception. They 'see' the beauty, drama, and even humor of phenomena that occur in the flash of a microsecond. They enter the microscopic world that was once reserved only for scientists, but that Mysteries of the Unseen World makes accessible to the rest of us. They begin to understand that what we actually see is only a fraction of what there is TO see on this Earth. High-speed and time-lapse photography, electron microscopy, and nanotechnology are just a few of the advancements in science that now allow us to see a whole new universe of things, events, creatures, and processes we never even knew existed and now give us new 'super powers' to see beyond what is in front of us.

Visually stunning and rooted in cutting-edge research, Mysteries of the Unseen World will leave audiences in complete thrall as they begin to understand the enormity of the world they can't see, a world that exists in the air they breathe, on their own bodies and in all of the events that occur around them minute-by-minute, and nanosecond-by-nanosecond. And with this understanding comes a new appreciation of the wonder and possibilities of science.

Walking with Monsters: Before the Dinosaurs (DVD)

Many people think of the dinosaurs as the first inhabitants of the earth, but this prequel to Walking With Dinosaurs puts viewers in the midst of a host of strange creatures that inhabited the earth millions of years before the dinosaurs ever existed. With the help of complex computer animation and the research of hundreds of paleontologists, the BBC presents an extremely realistic picture of the earth's earliest, most primitive aquatic inhabitants and chronicles their evolution to the precursors of man himself and the mighty dinosaurs. The first Walking With Monsters episode begins in the Cambrian period 530 million years ago, showcasing how a simple jellyfish-like sea creature evolved over 200 million years into new creatures with eyes and protective external and internal skeletal systems. These adaptations resulted in the world's first fish, arthropods, amphibians, and land-loving reptiles. The second episode details the giant insects of the Carboniferous period 300 million years ago and demonstrates how evolution empowered amphibians and reptiles by creating mechanisms to regulate their own body temperature and developing specialized teeth. The final episode begins in the late Permian period 250 million years ago when the earth was essentially one large desert full of volcanic activity. While much of earth's life was extinguished during this period, adaptation and evolution continued, bringing the development of a specialized hip in a tiny reptile called the Euparkeria that would prove to be the forerunner of mammals and evolve into the dinosaurs in the Triassic period. While some criticize this project as a somewhat overly dramatic presentation of speculative paleontology as fact, this program utilizes scientific inference to bring pre-history to life and highlight the amazing adaptations and evolution of the earth's earliest inhabitants. The bonus "Trilogy of Life" feature details the research, vision and hard work inherent in the creation of the Walking With Monsters, Walking With Dinosaurs and Walking With Prehistoric Beasts.
