Armand and Albert have a home life many would envy. They share a long-term committed relationship encompassing their lives and careers, and have together raised Armand's son, Val, into a caring, responsible, and mature young man. So, when Val arrives home and announces his engagement to the daughter of an ultra-conservative U.S. Senator, what choice is there but to accept his decision with love? Meanwhile, Senator Keeley and his wife are facing bigger problems than their daughter's unexpected engagement. The senator is watching his right-wing constituency evaporate with the scandalous demise of his closet political ally. A visit to the future in-laws could be just the thing to take the public's focus off the Keeley's messy predicament. With the impending visit of his fiancee's rigid family, Val asks his father to straighten up the apartment just a bit. All it entails is the removal or Armand's collection, furnishings, clothes, job...and Albert.

The great improvisational comedy team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May reunited to (respectively) direct and write this update of the French comedy La Cage Aux Folles. Robin Williams stars as a gay Miami nightclub owner who is forced to play it straight and ask his drag-queen partner (Nathan Lane) to hide out when Williams's son invites his prospective--and highly conservative--in-laws and fiancée to a meet-and-greet dinner party. Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest play the straight-laced senator and his wife, and Calista Flockhart (from television's Ally McBeal) plays their daughter in a culture-clash with outrageous consequences. May's witty screenplay incorporates some pointed observations about the political landscape of the 1990s and takes a sensitive approach to the comedy's underlying drama. Topping off the action is Hank Azaria in a scene-stealing role as Williams's and Lane's flamboyant housekeeper, "Agador Spartacus." --Jeff Shannon

Blast off for outrageously funny space travel in this screwball comedy that spins wildly out of control all the way to Mars! Though he's a wiz with computers, accident-prone astro-nut Fred Randall (comedian Harland Williams, DUMB AND DUMBER) is the last guy on Earth you'd want on the first manned mission to Mars. But as bad luck and poor timing would have it, that's exactly what happens, and Fred undergoes rigorous, if not hilarious, training at NASA. After that it's t-minus a reality check as Fred blasts off with the rest of the space shuttle crew: a cocky, no-nonsense Commander, a sexy Mission Specialist, and a mischievous space chimp named Ulysses. From the dizzying preflight foolishness to the even loonier landing, ROCKETMAN is the out-of-this-world hit comedy that's more than go for launch ... it's go for laughs!|Ulysses was played by Raven, a 3-year-old female chimpanzee.|In preparation for their roles as astronauts, the three stars attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, riding in simulators and floating in zero gravity.|Filmmakers spent nine weeks at the Johnson Space Center, in Houston, Texas, shooting at the famous Rocket Park (the gargantuan Building 9 that houses all of the spacecraft mock-ups for the ongoing shuttle missions) and Building 32, which houses the world's largest thermal vacuum chamber and simulates all conditions of outer space (except zero gravity).|For the surface of Mars, the filmmakers moved to Moab, Utah, where they found giant cliffs, red rocks, a lack of vegetation, and the overall scale of what could be a distant planet.

SCTV alum Rick Moranis ("The Little Shop of Horrors," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids") and Dave Thomas portray the classic Canadian beer-guzzling duo, the MacKenzie Brothers, as they try to stop a mad beer brewer from gaining control of the world. Co-starring Oscar and Golden Globe-nominee Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist") and Paul Dooley ("Breaking Away," "Runaway Bride"). Outrageous fun loosely based on Shakespeare's "Hamlet."

A family in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan has a storied tradition of deer hunting. Everyone in the family has bagged their fair share of bucks except Rueben Soady who is on the verge of becoming the black of the Soady family.

However, this year is going to be different. The Soady men have retreated to their cabin deep in the woods and things start changing, some for the better, others for the worse.

"It's like Christmas with guns," is how one happy member of the Soady family describes the opening day of hunting season. Rueben Soady (Jeff Daniels) is on the verge of becoming the oldest member of the entire line of Soady men to have never shot a buck. To change his luck, Rueben tries to convince his father and brother to change some of the time-honored rituals of their annual hunting pilgrimage, but this seems to set off a series of uncanny incidents involving UFOs, cards, backwoods whiskey, flatulence, and possession by native spirits. Escanaba in da Moonlight is a comic homage to hunting in upstate Michigan, written and directed by star Daniels. It's not for everyone--vegetarians, among others, will find its blithe celebration of deer hunting repugnant--but venison eaters may find Escanaba's offbeat Midwest humor entertaining. --Bret Fetzer
