Lewis Carroll's ever-popular story provides the basis for Christopher Wheeldon's spectacular new work, starring Royal Ballet Principal Lauren Cuthbertson. Captivating designs by Bob Crowley, an engaging and passionate score by Joby Talbot, and Wheeldon's breathtaking choreography combine to produce in the words of The Times "spectacular family entertainment brought to life with enormous theatrical verve."

Press Reviews
"What a treat this is - such an imaginative treatment of a favourite story. There are extraordinary, eccentric sets and special effects; colourful, larger-than-life, argumentative characters and extraordinary costumes. Lauren Cuthbertson, as Alice, is excellent, her every movement suggesting the actions and emotions of this curious, spirited pre-adolescent... Christopher Wheeldon's choreography is very imaginative and fitting for every character." (Musicweb International)

On a June night in 2017, opera lovers thronged to the Royal Opera House in London to hear tenor Jonas Kaufmann, recently acclaimed by The Daily Telegraph as the world s greatest tenor, make his eagerly anticipated debut in the title role of Otello Verdi s greatest and most demanding role for tenor voice. As the New York Times wrote Mr. Kaufmann made his debut in the part, and he calmly, confidently sang it for the ages. Sony Classical is pleased to release his landmark performance on DVD and Blu-ray. Joining Jonas Kaufmann on stage were Italian baritone, Marco Vratogna as Iago, who, as the Metro newspaper noted sings up a thrilling storm of hatred and malevolence and Italian soprano, Maria Agresta who sang with a tender yet creamy intensity (The Observer) in her deeply sensitive performance of Otello s tragic Desdemona. The entire production was led by lauded conductor Antonio Pappano. Kaufmann s eagerly anticipated debut matched the high expectations of the audience and critics alike and will surely stand the test of time, his Otello being, as the City Am newspaper noted: the great Otello for this generation of opera lovers. The production of Wagner's Ring at the Bayreuth Festival is an event that takes place only once every six years. Bayreuth recordings of the complete cycle are very rare; this being only the second filmed version. The Kupfer/Barenboim Ring was performed over a five-year period and recorded at the conclusion when the Bayreuth Workshop had raised the quality of the performance to an almost unsurpassable level (Der Tagesspiegel)

In going back to the original high definition video masters and using cutting edge encoding technology, we are able to maximize the quality of this new presentation of the Ring. This, along with the larger 11 disc transfer, allows us to exploit the DVD standard to its fullest, and to also include three audio streams, LPCM, Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1.
