Brand: Zenith
Model: XBV442

Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Combination; ONLY 3.1" High; Plays DVD Video/DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, Audio CD,CD-R,CD-RW, MP3, JPEG, Kodak Picture CD, WMA

From quality VHS cassette recording and playback and high-resolution DVD performance to easy spinning of homemade MP3 CDs, Zenith's XBV442 handles all your movie and music needs. This stylish combo unit saves space while simplifying your entertainment hookups, providing convenient front-panel audio/video jacks simplify hookup with camcorders and video game consoles. The XBV442 plays CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, MP3 and WMA CDs, JPEG image CDs, and of course standard DVD-Videos.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the XBV442 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs through its progressive-scan component-video outputs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Composite- and S-video outputs (select between S-video or component-video outputs) bring compatibility with nearly any television. Other features include 4x and 6x moveable zoom, variable high-speed scan (2x, 4x, 16x, and 100x), parental locks, bookmarking, 20-track CD programming, and repeat and resume play.

The VCR section offers 4 heads (for clear slow-motion and stop-action features) and stereo sound. The deck's 19-micron video heads maintain clarity during recording or playback in EP (extended play) mode, auto digital tracking adjusts for optimal picture settings for every tape you load, and auto clock set maintains the correct time and even adjusts for daylight savings. You can't program the unit to record at specific times, but it does come with a handy Instant Recording button.

For the simplest hookup with your TV, you can use a single RCA composite-video connection to handle both DVD and VCR outputs. If you want a higher-quality connection from the DVD player, you can use a component- or S-video cable to an additional input on your TV (the VCR image requires a composite-video or RF connection with your TV). You can choose between an optical and a coaxial digital-audio output to feed a surround-sound signal to your Dolby Digital- or DTS-decoding audio/video receiver.

If you don't have a surround receiver or 6-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: the unit simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

Lite-On AllWrite LVW-5005 DVD/CD Recorder

Lite-On AllWrite LVW-5005 DVD/CD Recorder Lowest used price: $49.99
Brand: Lite-On
Model: LVW5005

Are you still deciding whether to choose between a +RW/+R and a RW/-R DVD Recorder? LITE-ON IT introduces a solution that solves this ongoing dilemma. Our LVW-5005 DVD recorder AllWrite provides the best solution for simplifying your decision making. The "All Write" capabilities of the LVW-5005 allow users to write their digital content to most popular digital discs, including DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs.

Lite-On's LVW-5005 AllWrite DVD recorder revolutionizes the way you record your videos. It accepts all types of 5-inch recordable optical media: DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, or CD-R/-RW. It's also equipped with analog and digital video inputs and MCTF (motion-compensated temporal filtering) video noise reduction to improve the quality of your programs as you record them.

Playback features abound, including MP3 CD and JPEG digital image CD and progressive-scan video outputs to deliver seamless, razor-sharp images on high-definition and HD-ready TVs and monitors. The player is capable of writing most video formats, too, depending on the type of blank media you're using: from highly compatible DVD+VR-mode video discs (DVD-Video) to video CD and SVCD (super video CD).

A single blank recordable DVD offers up to 6 hours of recording time (in SLP mode), which is equivalent to the maximum duration of a T-120 VHS videocassette in SLP mode. Unlike your SLP tape, however, your recordable DVDs won't degrade with every viewing, and access to points within the programs is incomparably easier. Moreover, the physical size of a single VHS cassette is about 10 times larger than a DVD disc.

For all DVD recording, each new recording is always placed after previous recordings unless you intent to overwrite it (when using rewritable media). The DVD recorder can automatically divide a recording into chapters by inserting chapter marks at 2- to 15-minute intervals during recording. Editing features include title edit, title naming, title protect, title overwrite, and title erase.

One-touch recording makes it easy to record favorite programs or capture video from external sources, including composite-video, S-video, and IEEE 1394 digital video. The unit's easy-track navigator provides a directory of thumbnail images so you can quickly and easily locate chapters on your DVDs. Unique thumbnails represent segments that you can play or edit.

Before sharing your digital content with others, all discs must first go through a process known as finalization. Once a DVD+R, DVD-R/-RW, CD-R or CD-RW disc has been finalized, it can be played back on other CD or DVD players or on PCs.

The recorder's convenient front-panel DV Link (IEEE 1394) input lets you transfer footage from digital camcorders or PC audio/video programming in their original digital quality.

As a player, the LVW-5005 positions you to enjoy DVD-Video discs in NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats (depending on your media and your TV/monitor), DVD+VR (compatible with DVD-Video players in most cases), video CD, super VCD, audio CD, MP3 CD (maximum number of recognizable files: 1,000; compression rate: between 32 kbps and 320 kbps), and JPEG CD (maximum number of recognizable pictures: 1,000).

The component-video input (selectable between standard 480i and progressive-scan 480p) separates the color and brightness signals to ensure the highest picture quality. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

What's in the Box
DVD player/recorder, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, an AC power cord, a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and an RF coaxial AV cable.

Note: Lite-On recommends use of Nero 6 Ultra Edition disc-writing software, sold separately, for creating discs to be used for the components firmware upgrades. Further, not all high-definition televisions are fully compatible with this product's progressive-scan output, which occurs at 525p rather than the usual 480p, and may produce undesirable image artifacts. In the event of 525p progressive-scan picture problems, Lite-On recommends switching the component-video output to "standard definition" (480i).

Record your favorite TV programs easily to DVD disc with the Panasonic DMR-ES20 progressive scan recorder/player, which can record to write-once DVD+R and DVD-R media or rewritable DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs (the latter being a great choice for temporary storage of recorded material as it can be rewritten more than DVD-RW). It's easy to record TV programming with the built-in analog TV tuner with RF pass-through and seven-day electronic programming guide (EPG). In addition to standard DVD movie and CD audio discs and its compatible recordable formats, the DMR-ES20 can play back DVD+RW, CD-R/RW, VCD, JPEG, and MP3.

Panasonic's Time Slip function consists of two features designed to give you added flexibility and control when making DVD recordings: Chasing Playback and Simultaneous Record and Play. With Chasing Playback, you don't have to wait for an entire program to be recorded before watching it from beginning to end. This feature allows you to watch a program that's currently being recorded from any point that's already been recorded--while continuing to record the live program in progress. Simultaneous Record and Play allows you to record a program onto a disc while simultaneously watching any other program that's previously been recorded on the same disc.

You can set your recorder to one of five different recording speeds, each varying in recording quality and length. EP mode yields the most recording time, LP and SP modes provide less recording time with higher quality recording, and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording. There's also the FR (Flexible Recording) mode that lets you record with the best picture quality possible for the recording time and remaining space on the disc.

The Direct Navigator feature makes it easy to find a previously recorded program on a disc. A list of recording dates, times, channels and (user-entered) titles are shown on screen. With the Playlist Playback function, you can perform simple non-linear video editing using, such as rearranging the order of scenes, skipping over unwanted scenes, or copying selections.

Jump directly to any spot on a disc and begin playback or recording right away with the Rapid Random Access function. Even if there is no sequential area of empty space available, this DVD recorder can record data on available space throughout the rest of the disc. You will also avoid searching for a blank spot to start recording, or accidentally recording over desired material.

It offers an optical digital audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound and a Firewire (also known as IEEE1394 or i.Link) for direct connection to a digital video camcorder. This recorder/player also offers the following connection options:

  • Composite video Input: 2 (1 front)

Audio inputs consist of 2-channel analog jacks with 24-bit/96 kHz analog-to-digital conversion for DVD with Dolby Digital 2.0 audio compression (compression is non-defeatable). Video conversion, to and from digital, is performed by high-quality 10-bit, 54 MHz converters.

Two sets of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Broaden your entertainment system's range of compatible media formats while saving space and simplifying hookups with RCA's DRC6300N combination DVD player and VCR. Progressive scanning gives you top-of-the-line DVD quality with a high-definition or HD-ready TV, while the player's Digital PhotoView feature lets you enjoy a custom slide show of digital photos when using a JPEG-encoded CD-R or CD-RW. The DVD section is compatible with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3/mp3PRO/WMA-encoded music discs, as well as both 3-inch and standard 5-inch sizes.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DRC6300N stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite- and S-video outputs maximize compatibility with nearly any television.

DVD playback options include MultiSpeed Smooth Scan (forward and reverse, up to 100x playback), MultiSpeed Slow Motion (forward and reverse), zoom (up to 4x), and slide show (for JPEG images). The supplied remote control operates the DVD/VCR as well as all RCA and GE televisions.

The built-in 4-head VCR offers auto rewind (at tape's end), 1-touch recording, and 8-event programming. If you're interested in the simplicity of a single audio/video connection between the combo unit and your TV, there's a composite-video-based, dual-format (DVD/VHS) AV output for that purpose. You actually get 2 sets of left/right analog-audio outputs (one for DVD/VCR and one for DVD only) to channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions.

The DVD player passes both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals through its digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or 6-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate DVD experience: 3D Virtual Surround simulates surround sound through 2 speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).

A convenient set of front-panel inputs makes it easy to hook up a camcorder or a second VCR, and the rear panel offers an additional AV input as well as one each RF output and input (for a cable TV feed). Please note: while the RF output will channel audio and video from the VCR section of the unit directly to your TV's RF input, a composite-video connection (or higher) is still required for DVD viewing. If your TV has only a single RF input, as many older sets do, you'll also need to buy an RF video modulator, which will not only convert composite-video to RF, but provide you with a simple way to switch multiple video output sources to a single TV input.
