Harman Kardon AVR 140 6.1-Channel A/V Receiver, Silver (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Harman Kardon AVR 140 6.1-Channel A/V Receiver, Silver (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Lowest used price: $260.00
Brand: Harman Kardon
Model: AVR 140

6.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver that can hook up to an Ipod thorugh the Harman Kardon Bridge

Don't be fooled by the AVR 140's modest price. The 6.1-channel A/V receiver--Harmon Kardon's most affordable model--is loaded with features that draw out the excitement and detail of movie soundtracks and the subtlest nuances of your favorite music. The AVR 140 incorporates a number of surround formats, including Dolby Digital and DTS decoding for digital sources, along with a broad choice of Matrix surround-encoded or stereo modes for such sources as CD players, VCRs, TV broadcasts, and the receiver's own AM/FM tuner. The most popular modes include Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS Neo:6, DTS 96/24, Dolby 3 Stereo, and Hall and Theater modes.

Take a closer look at the AVR 140's connections. You can also view the unit's front panel in detail.
The receiver also boasts such sound-enhancing features as Harman International's exclusive Logic 7 processing in both 5.1 and 7.1 versions, which creates a wider, more enveloping field environment and more defined fly-overs and pans; and VMAx, which uses proprietary processing to create an open, spacious sound field even when only two front speakers are available. The receiver's six channels of high-current amplification (40 watts x 6), meanwhile, are complemented by extensive digital bass management options, including four separate crossover groupings.

Other receiver essentials include high-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video switching with assignable inputs, an onscreen menu and display system with the choice of a blue or black background screen, and compatibility with the Bridge, a Harman Kardon device that works with most iPod models. The Bridge lets you operate the iPod from across the room using the AVR 140's remote control, which has been preprogrammed with several iPod control codes. As a result, listeners can select tracks and navigate most iPod functions, charge the unit, or even view track information on the AVR 140's LED display or onscreen menu.

For the ultimate in flexibility, the AVR 140 also sports three component video inputs, four composite video inputs, and four S-video inputs, along with an impressive six digital audio inputs (three optical and three coaxial). Additional jacks include two analog audio inputs, a video recording output, a subwoofer pre-out, and a color-coded eight-channel input.

So whether you're looking to upgrade an old analog system or add high-quality home theater performance to your home, the AVR 140 is a perfect fit. The receiver, which measures 17.3 by 5.9 by 13.8 inches (W x H x D), carries a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Harman Kardon AVR 240 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver, Silver (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Harman Kardon AVR 240 7.1-Channel A/V Receiver, Silver (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Lowest used price: $179.00
Brand: Harman Kardon
Model: AVR 240

7.1 Channel Audio/Video Receiver that can hook up to your Ipod for Audio Playback, Control, and Charging.

Harman Kardon's AVR 240 7.1-channel A/V surround receiver is among the best receivers in its class, as it harnesses many of the company's latest features and technologies to go with its near-universal surround-format compatibility. Internally, the receiver is engineered for extraordinary sonic performance, with an amplifier section that delivers seven channels of high-current (+/-35 amps), wide-bandwidth amplification--50 watts into 8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with less than 0.07 percent total harmonic distortion--in addition to employing state-of-the-art 192 kHz/24-bit audio digital-to-analog converters.

Take a closer look at the AVR 240's connections. You can also view the unit's front panel in detail.
The receiver also offers a wide range of digital and matrix surround modes, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx (which provides an expansive, full-range 7.1-channel program from any stereo or 5.1-channel source), DTS, DTS ES Discrete and Matrix, DTS 96/24, and DTS Neo:6. Listeners will also delight in the Virtual Speaker mode, which creates an enveloping sound field when fewer than six speakers are available, and Dolby Headphone, which provides a much more open and realistic presentation through a pair of ordinary headphones.

Adding to the receiver's versatility are such sound-enhancing features as Harman International's exclusive Logic 7 processing in both 5.1 and 7.1 versions, which creates a wider, more enveloping field environment and more defined fly-overs and pans; and VMAx, which uses proprietary processing to create an open, spacious sound field even when only two front speakers are available. The receiver's extensive bass management options, meanwhile, include four separate crossover groupings.

As a result, listeners can select tracks and navigate most iPod functions, charge the unit, or even view track information on the AVR 240's LED display or onscreen menu.

The receiver's variety of audio and video connections include three wide-bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video inputs, five S-video and five composite video inputs, and two analog audio inputs. Digital audio options, meanwhile, include three coaxial and three optical audio inputs, including one of each on the front panel. Other jacks range from 6- and 8-channel direct audio inputs to 7.1-channel preamp outputs that accommodate a DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, or universal player.

Anyone that's ever suffered from technology overload when setting up his or her audio/video system can rest easy with the AVR 240. The unit's intuitive onscreen menus coordinate with the system's EzSet/EQ function to provide automated system calibration and room equalization, thus greatly simplifying installation. The resulting speaker output compensates for the effects of a room's acoustics to improve the overall system performance. In tandem with EzSet/EQ--which comes with its own microphone--the AVR 240 also includes a full set of manual configuration settings for those who wish to custom-trim their system even further.

Lastly, the AVR 240 comes with an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets. The AVR 240 measures 17.3 by 5.9 by 13.8 inches (W x H x D) and carries a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Harman Kardon CDR 30 Dual-Tray CD Recorder (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

Harman Kardon CDR 30 Dual-Tray CD Recorder (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Lowest used price: $300.00
Brand: Harman Kardon
Model: OUTLET-CDR30

The Harman Kardon CDR 30 steps well beyond the territory most CD recorders roam, bringing first-rate recording and playback quality under one convenient roof. This versatile audio CD recorder gives you the ability to create custom CDs from a variety of digital and analog sources, including HDCD-encoded discs and MP3 music files.

The CDR 30's built-in MP3 decoder plays and decodes MP3-encoded CDs and also creates standard Red Book CDs from MP3 discs that may be played on any standard CD player or CD-ROM drive. A built-in, auto-sensing, sampling-rate converter automatically adapts digital audio recordings at sampling rates other than 44.1 kHz to CD-standard audio when recording from MP3, digital audiotape, and minidiscs. This capability allows direct digital-to-digital recording from most consumer and professional digital sources. During conventional CD-to-CD dubbing, the CDR 30 automatically bypasses the sampling-rate converter.

The CDR 30 copies all digital information contained on a CD, including HDCD encoding and DTS data. In addition, the CDR 30 is the first home audio CD deck that can copy multisession CDs that contain tracks recorded at different times before disc finalization.

To accommodate the widest variety of music sources, the CDR 30 includes a comprehensive variety of digital and analog inputs. It includes three sets of rear-panel coaxial digital, optical digital, and analog inputs; plus there are front-panel coaxial and optical digital inputs. The CDR 30's coaxial and optical digital outputs enable its digital-audio output to be played through the digital input of a receiver or preamp/processor, or a separate external digital-to-analog converter (DAC). Analog outputs provide a standard connection. The CDR 30 also features a headphone jack with level control for private listening.

The Harman Kardon CDR 30 offers a host of features that make recording digital and analog sources fast and virtually foolproof. The CDR 30 performs CD-to-CD-R and CD-to-CD-RW dubbing at 4x speed, along with 4x disc finalization--still the fastest CD dubbing and finalization in the industry.

The CDR 30's dual-tray operation makes the process easy: simply load the CD to be dubbed into the play-only disc tray, place a blank CD-R or CD-RW audio disc into the play-record disc tray, and the CDR 30 initiates recording at the touch of a few buttons. The CDR 30's automatic digital recording level control normalizes varying levels from different digital recordings when creating a CD mix, with no loss in fidelity. This function also virtually eliminates the possibility of recording a disc with overload distortion on peak-volume passages, resulting from too high a recording level.

The CDR 30 is designed for unmatched sound quality. AKM 24-bit/96 kHz, AK4393 DACs and an AKM AK5351 20-bit, 64x-oversampling analog-to-digital converter achieve audiophile-grade recording and playback. These state-of-the-art converters utilize AKM's innovative multibit delta-sigma technology to achieve a remarkable 105 dB dynamic range with exceptionally high resolution. In addition, the CDR 30 utilizes premium components throughout for maximum sonic purity, along with precision optics and disc mechanisms for accurate, glitch-free CD recording and playback.

A built-in HDCD decoder lets you enjoy the full sonic benefits of the improved resolution, dynamic range, and musical realism provided by the HDCD format. Thanks to its precision digital filter, the HDCD decoder also improves the sound quality of conventional non-HDCD-encoded CDs.

The CDR 30 offers an extensive array of convenience features: CD playback, programming functions such as MP3 and CD Text display capability, a Direct Single Track Dubbing function, and an easy-to-read fluorescent level meter. There is a wide variety of repeat-play, random-play, and program-play options, full remote-control operation, and more. Finalized CD-R and CD-RW discs, as well as prerecorded CDs, can be played back in the CDR 30's disc trays.

The CDR 30 is fully compliant with the Serial Copy Management System (SCMS), which limits digital copying to one generation.

Features:

  • CD sync recording from external digital sources
  • 4x dub-speed capability
  • HDCD and MP3 decoding
  • Front panel optical and coaxial digital inputs
  • 24-bit/96kHz AKM digital to analog converters

JBL Creature 2.1 Speakers (3-Speaker, White)

JBL Creature 2.1 Speakers (3-Speaker, White) Lowest used price: $119.99
Brand: Harman Kardon
Model: CREATURE-WHITE

JBL's stylish Creature three-piece speaker system consists of two powered desktop speakers and a powered subwoofer, all of which feed off a single stereo analog minijack (.125-inch) input. Both the speakers and the subwoofer are magnetically shielded to prevent undesirable image distortion when placed on or near your computer monitor. The Creature comes with elegant "capacitance touch" volume control buttons (up/down) positioned on the right satellite.

The units are rated at eight watts apiece for the satellites and a hefty 24 watts for the subwoofer (which handles audio from the upper-bass region, 180 Hz, down to a reasonably solid 50 Hz or so). The speakers' 10-percent distortion at their rated power is fairly high, but you'll get much cleaner sound and still-decent power when driving the system only half as hard, especially if you're using the system in near-field.

Both satellites boast fancy, green down-firing LEDs, which look particularly cool in low-light settings. And while the Creature system is not expandable beyond the three pieces it comes with, some sound cards support multiple analog outputs, which would let you drive multiple Creature systems simultaneously.

What's in the Box
Two satellite speakers, one subwoofer, a user's manual, and warranty information. Note: The Creature is designed specifically for regional voltages (US, Euro, UK, Japan, and some parts of Asia). Using a voltage converter will damage the system and void the warranty. You will need to purchase the JBL Creature system in your area for the correct power supply.

Features:

  • Three-piece speaker system
  • Subwoofer 24 watts at 10%, speakers 8 watts per satellite at 10%
  • Frequency Response of 50 to 20 kHz
  • Signal-to-Noise radio greater than 80 dB
  • Works with PCs or Macs
