The Meade Autostar No. 495 electronic controller is an advanced accessory controller for any Meade DS series telescope. With the optional Meade Autostar computer controller plugged into the control panel of your DS telescope, locating any astronomical object in the sky is as easy as pushing a button. Identical in operating characteristics to the Autostar controller available for Meade ETX telescopes, Autostar for DS telescopes is easy to use, even for the beginner who has never operated a telescope. If your DS telescope includes the No. 492 dual-motor electronic control system, then the telescope can be Autostar equipped with the simple addition of the No. 495 Autostar handbox only; no additional motors or other parts of the system need be purchased. Just plug the No. 495 Autostar hand controller into the telescope's control panel in place of the electronic controller and, after a quick one-minute alignment, Autostar is ready to use. The Meade Autostar No. 495 controller provides digital readouts of telescope position, continuously in right ascension and declension, and precise sidereal-rate tracking. Once Autostar locates an object, it directs the telescope to track the object automatically on both telescope axes simultaneously, keeping the object centered in the field. It also offers nine-speed dual-axis operation. Use Autostar's push buttons to move the telescope on either or both axes simultaneously at any of nine drive speeds, from very slow 2x sidereal to fast 6 degrees per second. You can also find the locations of the constellations by pushing Autostar's arrow key for a description of the mythology of the constellation, as well as information on important objects located within its boundaries. The Meade Autostar No. 495 controller features go-to capability to any of 200 user-defined objects.

Lowest used price: $49.99
Full function binocular & digital camera with 8MB memory / Includes USB Cable image-editing software for PC on CD-ROM
Anyone who's ever peered through their binoculars and wished they could freeze the moment will delight in the Meade CVB1002 CaptureView, which combines a digital camera with a traditional binocular body. The ETX-90EC also includes hightorque DC motors on both telescope axes, permitting electronicoperation from the hand-held controller. This push-button electroniccontroller has four dual-axis drive speeds: slow, 8x for imagecentering at high power; medium, 32x for image centering at lowerpower or for pushbutton tracking in altazimuth mode; moderate, 0.75degrees per second for image centering in the viewfinder or forterrestrial tracking; and fast, 5 degrees per second for fast scanningacross the sky.

The ETX-Series optics offersuperb contrast, image brightness, and resolution; Meade claims thetelescope consistently outperforms many instruments of largerapertures. Meade also uses EMC super multicoatings on all opticalsurfaces to maximize light transmission through the corrector lens andreflectance from the primary and secondary mirrors. The flip-mirrorsystem allows for 90-degree observation of land and sky objects,straight-through observation using the optional #932 45-degreeErecting Prism, or photo-ready imaging using the optional #64T-Adapter and your own 35mm camera.
Overall, the Meade ETX-90EC isa fine piece of craftsmanship at a surprisingly affordable price. |Meade DCS 7x18 Folding Roof Prism Binoculars
Lowest new price: $59.99
List price: $59.99
Get a better view whether traveling through a wildlife preserve, watching your favorite baseball team, or just surveying the neighborhood with these compact Meade DCS binoculars. Boasting a power of 7x and an 18mm objective lens design, the lightweight binoculars (they weigh only 4.1 ounces) are terrific for daytime viewing, though the small lens diameter makes them somewhat less useful when the lighting is poor. The binoculars also feature fully coated single-layer optics for clear viewing and a comfortable 10.5 mm of eye relief. More importantly, the field of view stands at 488 feet at a distance of 1,000 yards, with a near focusing distance of 15 feet. As a result, all but the most distant objects look crisp and vivid.
The binoculars don't offer a single focus control, but instead sport an independent focus mechanism on each eyepiece, giving users more influence over the final image--an especially nice feature for folks with vision impairments. And to ensure that the binoculars hold up to heavy use, Meade coated the housing with durable black rubber. The DCS binoculars, which measure 3 by 1.5 by 2.5 inches (W x H x D), come with a soft nylon carrying case, neck strap, and lens cleaning cloth. They're also backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Skillfully observing the many visible stars and planets can be very daunting for the beginner and trying for even the intermediate amateur astronomer, but the Meade DS-2114ATS telescope makes it easy thanks to the Autostar computer controller system. You can locate any astronomical object by entering it into the keypad; electric motors then align the telescope to display the object. The Autostar's catalog includes 74 galaxies, 135 star clusters, 26 asteroids, and the 8 major planets, for a total of 1,586 viewable objects.
You can store up to 200 objects in the memory for an immediate go-to function. Digital readouts display the telescope’s position in both radians and decimal form. Oversize bearings and locks on both of the telescope’s axes eliminate imprecisions of movement that are common to lesser telescopes.
Since it is a Newtonian reflector, the DS-2114ATS's aluminized primary mirror and elliptical secondary mirror provide sharp and bright images at a relatively low price. This optical system has a 114mm aperture and a focal length of 1000mm. The 6x30mm viewfinder and eyepiece, with a diameter of 1.25 inches, makes viewing comfortable and free of any eye strain. Also included are an aluminum tripod with a fold-up accessory shelf and astronomy software on CD-ROM.
- 114mm aperture for a focal length of 1000mm
- Newtonian reflector with relay lens
- Aluminum tripod with unique fold-up accessory shelf
- 6x30 viewfinder
- Included astronomy software on CD-ROM
