Aquatic Plants

Pond Oxygenating Hornwort Bunch Plants

Pond Oxygenating Hornwort Bunch Plants Lowest new price: $4.75
List price: $8.95
Brand: Aquarium Plants Discounts

Hornwort, also known as Coontail, has sturdy, layered hair-like foliage that helps oxygenate and clarify the water as well as keep algae growth to a minimum. It is found free-floating worldwide, in moving and still waters, or loosely anchored in muddy bottoms. The tips will shorten and thicken in fall, before falling off and settling on the pond floor to spend the winter as buds. In spring, these buds grow to repopulate the pond. Hornwort leaves are dark green and grow from a 1/2 to 1-1/2 inches long on stems that can reach 24 inches in length. They may be potted or just left to float in the pond. Approximate Purchase Size: 6" to 8"

Features:

  • IMPORTANT: Please note that during times of extreme weather, live plants will suffer due to extreme temperatures. During winter, do not order live plants when temperatures are expected to go below 20F at the lowest point during the day. During summer, avoid ordering plants when temperatures are above 100F.
  • This natural pond plant improves water quality by oxygenating and removing excess nutrients from pond water. Helps neutralize algae. Please be mindful that aquatic plants will always carry a risk of snails so do not order if they are a concern
  • Can be untied and left to float or can be placed at the bottom of the pond with the attached lead strip. Small fish and invertebrates can hide in its foliage from predators
  • Resilient to cold weather and very easy to grow
  • One bunch per square foot of pond area is recommended. Grown and shipped directly from our California Nursery

List price: $1.90
Brand: Seedusa LLC.

Zones 4 - 11. This aquatic perennial's tuberous roots colonize the soil at the bottom of earth-bottom ponds, or the soil in containers fully submerged in lined ponds. The stems of the leaves can reach the surface of water that's nearly two feet deep-and then continue upward, above the water, a few inches or even a foot farther. The roots don't tolerate frost but the tubers and roots are hardy anywhere the water above the soil is deep enough that the pond's surface-ice doesn't freeze all the way down to the soil, and yet is not so deep that their leaves can't reach at least a bit above the water's surface to get the full sun they need to grow and flower: From the frost-free tropics of Zone 11, then, all the way down to the seriously-Wintered Zone 4 of Northern Vermont and Canada. Few plants, aquatic or terrestrial, have such a world-wide versatility.

Features:

  • **PURCHASE from SEEDUSA LLC.** FAST SHIPPING from USA (Don't be fooled by Fake Seeds from China Sellers!!) [Seedusa LLC is a family owned & operated company, based in the USA!] Easily sprouted by scoring the short end of the seed and leaving in a bowl of water. Nymphaea, or the "true" water lily, has its place in myth and legend, beginning with the ancient Greeks who dedicated the plant to the nymph, a type of water demigoddess.

  • Few plants, aquatic or terrestrial, have such a world-wide versatility. Growing your lotus in a plastic tub that's submerged in water: Plant the tuber shallowly, on its side, in a dishpan-sized plastic tub of heavy soil. Don't use potting soil, which is so fluffy it would just float away when you submerge the plastic tub. Leave the tuber's growth tip exposed. After two or three of the small starter leaves have sprouted, you can lower the tub (carefully) to its "mature" depth.
  • Yes, the starter leaves will be "drowned"-fully submerged-but the subsequent leaves will know to grow all the way up to the surface. Only after the young plant has a half dozen leaves lolling around on the surface, just like those of water lilies, does it then decide to grow leaves that leap up out of the water entirely before unfurling.

1 EXTRA LARGE Duckweed Portion (Lemna minor) - 250+ Floating Pods - Live Aquarium Plant by Aquatic Arts Lowest new price: $3.94
Lowest used price: $16.00
List price: $6.19
Brand: Aquatic Arts

Live plants have many agricultural uses, such as removing waste and excess nutrients from hydroponic systems, fighting algae and bacterial growth in farm ponds, and keeping educational aquariums clean.

Duckweed, also known as water lens, is a fast-growing floating plant. The leaves (or fronds) are very small and vibrant light green in color. They grow in dense colonies and provide hiding places for small invertebrates and fish.

Duckweed is easy to grow and is fine with low-light setups, although more light means faster and denser growth. It grows by absorbing waste including ammonia and nitrates from the water, which means less pollutants causing smelly or cloudy water and happier fish/invertebrates!

This portion comes with 250 or more pods, and is grown by me right here in the USA, not illegally imported/etc.

Features:

  • Aquatic ArtsTM has the most highly rated aquarium plants on Amazon for a reason: we are not deceptive about what you will actually receive, and we stand behind our products 100%.
  • Fast-growing and grows by using waste and pollutants in the water, making it an extremely effective part of your biological filtration. Reduces or eliminates water changes!
  • A great plant for beginners! Does not require special equipment, care, or knowledge.
  • Beautiful upgrade over plastic plants, which can look tacky and make your tank appear unnatural.
  • All Aquatic ArtsTM (formerly InvertObsessionTM) brand plants and animals come with a 100% live arrival guarantee, plus free email support directly from the owners!

25 Seeds Aquatic Lotus (Mixed Colors) Water Lily Flower

25 Seeds Aquatic Lotus (Mixed Colors) Water Lily Flower Lowest new price: $1.49
List price: $1.49
Brand: Aquaticseed Inc.

The lotus flower is revered in Asia and appreciated the world around for its beauty and simplicity. There is a long history of cultivating lotus plants. Images of lotus flowers can be seen in Egyptian, Hindu, Chinese and other archaeological sites. The plant grows from underwater rhizomes, a type of root. Long stems rise from them to the surface of ponds and lakes. There, round flat leaves fan out to collect sunlight. Other stems produce flowers and, eventually, seeds. Lotus seeds remain viable for extremely long periods of time. Dormant seeds found within Chinese tombs thousands of years old have been successfully germinated. The seeds are easy to germinate.

Features:

  • Easy to Germinate cut the hard shell off the end of the seed, becareful not to hurt the seed inside and place in water.
  • Scarify the seeds by making a lateral incision across them with a file. Use the file to cut through the hard shell of the seed until you see the cream-colored endosperm through the incision. This will allow the seed to more readily absorb water, thereby promoting germination.
  • Place the seeds in the plastic container and fill it with fresh water until they are completely covered. Keep the seeds in a well-lit area that is about 77 to 86 degrees F. It is important to change the water at least once a day, especially if it becomes cloudy.
  • Look at your seeds after 48 hours. The hard shell should appear lumpy or wrinkled due to the absorption of water. Within 48 hours after that, you should notice a crack in the tip of each seed, with a small green shoot protruding from it. Over the next few days, this shoot will continue to grow and eventually unfold.
  • Wait for the shoots of your seedlings to grow upward and form small leaves. At this point, the seedlings have matured enough to be planted.

  • Water lily has its place in myth and legend, beginning with the ancient Greeks who dedicated the plant to the nymph, a type of water demigoddess. Step 1 Scarify each seed by sawing through the hard seed coat with a hobby knife until you see the seed's cream-colored interior. The seed coat must be split for germination. Step 2 Enlarge the cut with a small triangular file. Step 3 Place the scarified seeds in warm water in a shallow pan.
  • The water should be between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Step 4 Change the water twice a day. Over the next 3 days, the seeds will begin to appear lumpy. Shortly after that, they will begin to sprout. Step 5 Put about 3 inches of soil in the bottom of a plastic bucket. Plain garden soil will work well. Step 6 Add enough water to the bucket to cover the soil by about 3 inches. Let the bucket sit overnight to allow the soil to settle. Step 7 Plant the seed about 1 inch deep.
  • This will re-stir the sediment and it will take awhile for the water to clear. Add water to maintain around 3 inches of water above the soil. Step 8 Transplant the lotus to its final growing place after a couple of weeks. This should not be done until the lotus has a number of leaves floating on top of the water in the bucket. Step 9 Turn the bucket upside down after draining the water to release the lotus tuber, roots, and plant.
  • Be careful not to break off the plant, as this will kill the lotus. The joint between the plant and tuber can be very brittle. Step 10 Plant the lotus in 3-5 inches of soil in its final growing place. Step 11 Place a rock over the tuber to keep it from floating up. Step 12 Add a couple of pond fertilizer tablets to the outer rim of the final location for your lotus. Step 13 Cover the dirt and rock with a couple of inches of pea gravel and place the lotus in the sun.
