Bank account reconciliation is simplified since the checkbook software allows you to mark reconciled transactions (cleared transactions) which will then display a green checkmark indicator next to them to easily identify them. The top of each Excel checkbook register displays key amounts used in account reconciliation including totals for Total Outstanding, Total Cleared and Register Balance. These amounts will help reconcile your accounts along with viewing the transactions and amounts in your bank account statements, credit card statements, or viewing online banking and comparing the bank statements against the Excel checkbook registers.

The Excel checkbook registers have columns to record the details of each transaction including the date of transaction, check number, description of the transaction, a memo field, a field to mark an item as reconciled, an optional category field, and an amount field.

Use the optional Category field to indicate the type transaction such as a Groceries Category. If you use the Category field, you can then filter a particular checkbook register spreadsheet and create Category subtotals such as displaying total spending in the Groceries Category this month or this year or display total expenses for a particular account register for any other category that you entered thus providing a way to track actual household expenses and income by categories.

Ability to sort transactions in the Excel check registers by date.

Insert date feature saves you time so you do not have to type out full date for each transaction that you enter in the excel checkbook templates.

Accounts Summary includes amounts for each checkbook register including Account Balances, Total Outstanding, number of Transactions Outstanding, Total Cleared, Total Assets, Total Liabilities, and Net Amount.

Importing of transactions from online banking or another financial institution can be done manually by downloading the transactions from the bank into an csv or txt formatted file and then opening that file in Excel and then aligning and formatting the columns to match the checkbook software register columns and then copy / paste special values the data into the check registers.

Memo field can be used to mark items as potentially tax deductible such as health insurance and medical expenses which can help when preparing year end Federal tax returns.

Use the checkbook software to enter and record different types of transactions such as deposits, purchases, withdrawals, payments, electronic transfers between accounts, automatic online bill payments, checks written, and other account inflows, outflows, debits, and credits.

The checkbook software template file contains Excel VBA macros that must be enabled for the software to work. These macros help simplify features such as sorting, filtering, and navigating the software.

The checkbook software can be saved on your desktop computer or laptop computer, thereby giving you more control of your personal financial information as opposed to having all your financial information saved in the cloud with an online file storage service, web based software, online personal finance software, or checkbook app.
