Jurassic Park [VHS]

Jurassic Park [VHS] Lowest new price: $2.00
Lowest used price: $0.01

Steven Spielberg's 1993 mega-hit rivals Jaws as the most intense and frightening film he'd ever made prior to Schindler's List, but it was also among his weakest stories. Based on Michael Crichton's novel about an island amusement park populated by cloned dinosaurs, the film works best as a thrill ride with none of the interesting human dynamics of Spielberg's Jaws. That lapse proves unfortunate, but there's no shortage of raw terror as a rampaging T-rex and nasty raptors try to make fast food out of the cast. The effects are still astonishing (despite the fact that the computer-generated technology has since been improved upon) and at times primeval, such as the sight of a herd of whatever-they-are scampering through a valley. --Tom Keogh

A&E Home Video proudly presents the mind-numbing conclusion to Patrick McGoohan's monumental 17-part cult TV series with these three pivotal episodes. A resigned secret agent, kidnapped and held in a secured seaside Village, continues to fight for his freedom. Included in this final collection is the most whimsical episode filmed, followed by the incredible two-part series finale. These uncut, digitally- remastered episodes afford the opportunity of studying the controversial ending in laborious detail. Initial UK viewers of "Fall Out" flooded the network with calls. Viewers were confused, outraged or puzzled. Which category will you fall in? THE GIRL WHO WAS DEATH - A born survivor and a born killer engage in a battle of wits - only one can be victorious. ONCE UPON A TIME - "Degree Absolute" is the ultimate test for Number Six. One week of intense questioning makes Number Six relive his life from birth until the day he resigned - will he reveal why? FALL OUT - An underground ceremony reviews three cases of Revolt. Number Six is given a choice, "Lead us, lead us or go!"

Perhaps no other series so confounded its loyal viewers as The Prisoner. Why did Patrick McGoohan's British agent resign? Where was the Village? And who, really, was Number 1? The Prisoner ends with its key riddles unanswered. It goes without saying that no Prisoner collection is complete without these final three episodes. A curiosity, "The Girl Who Was Death," isn't cricket for the series. It is a surreal fairy tale that plays like a long-lost episode of McGoohan's previous TV series, Danger Man, with Number 6 avoiding a series of assassination attempts before saving London "from the mad scientist." But "Once Upon a Time" and "Fallout," both written and directed by McGoohan, get back to business, as Number 6 suffers "Degree Absolute"--his most intense, last-man-standing, psychological probe yet--at the hands of Number 2 (Leo McKern, reprising his role from the episode "The Chimes of Big Ben") and at last prepares to meet the elusive Number 1. Those who just want to sample this cult fave series are advised to stick with the intriguing first episodes included in Set One. --Donald Liebenson
